Citao sam po netu da dosta njih ima prob. oko quake3 i zvuka, tj. nemaju ga Tongue ne radi ...
ali nisam ukapirao u cemu je stvar ...

Jel zna neko da mi pomogne?

Kako si izveo update oss drajvera?
Meni Enemy Teritory nema zvuk, pa bih rekao da je problem slican.

Idi u yast--> sound&multimedia -->sound system i probaj da stavis umesto auto na open sound system pa testiraj zvuk uz pomoc test dugmeta

Nekad nemoras da update-ujes oss.Imas u cedeginom config fajlu pri dnu opciju za podesavanje zvuka.Mozes da ukljucis ili alsu ili oss.Koliko puta mi se desilo da neka igrica nema zvuk ili ima zvuk a da je los,samo to promenim i sve radi.

Q3A uses the /dev/dsp sound device for sound support under Linux. This
is the default device provided by the sound drivers included with the Linux
kernel. Please note that at the time of this writing, PCI based sound cards
such as the SoundBlaster Live and Diamond Monster MX series were not
supported. They may be supported in the future. Check

for support in the future.

You should make sure that the permissions for the /dev/dsp device are read
and write for your current user ID. Some systems re-assign the owner and
reset to 644 on login. A simple way to get access is to do

  "chmod o+rw /dev/dsp"

as root. For the more security conscious, a special sound group could be
created and Q3A could be made setgid to the sound group to access the
device.

Q3A uses mmap() to map the sound buffers on /dev/dsp directly in order
to provide responsive sound needs. Sound cards must be able to support this
feature in order to work. SoundBlaster 16, AWE32 and AWE64 cards are known
to work.

Samo ovo nije pomoglo. Probacu sa novim OSS.
Sta kaze za ovaj oss da je komercijalan? Kako se to resava?

Novi OSS drajveri su mu nacisto ukinuli zvuk. Pratio sam uputstva sa sajta. Pitanje: Kako da uninstaliram te nove drajvere, odnosno sistem vratim na predjasnje stanje???

The sound doesn't work / sound crashes


The first thing to check is that it is actually a sound related. Run the game with +set s_initsound 0 and see what happens. All problems reported so far about sound turned out to be OS/drivers. Listed below:

On some Mandrake distributions:
Check if you are running the enlightenment sound daemon (esd). With ps aux | grep esdfor instance. It is a multiplexer for /dev/dsp, and might block use of /dev/dsp by Quake III Arena. You can disable esd with esdctl stop (as root).

Mandrake 8's default sound drivers seem broken, installing the Alsa drivers or the http://www.opensound.com drivers fixes the problem.

Some beta Alsa drivers have been reported to crash with Q3. Non-beta ones are fine.

VIA chipset and AC97 driver:
This combination is known to have various issues. They have been fixed in recent drivers (thanks to Arne Schmitz for the heads up):

the AC97 kernel driver. The current version can be found here:

It has working mmap sound, so Q3 shouldn't be a problem any more.
